Yeshiva Ohr Yisrael is proud
to announce that it is the sponsor of a chartered and affiliated chapter
of the National Honor Society. NHS ranks as one of the oldest and most
prestigious national organizations for high school students. Students
who meet high standards of scholarship, service, leadership, and
character are eligible for membership.
We have adapted the
national guidelines of NHS in order to promote a clear picture of the
ideal YOY student: A young man who excels in both Torah study and
general studies, gives of himself in the spirit of ahavas chesed,
possesses refined midos, and exemplifies through action and speech the
qualities of a ben Torah.
Standards for selection are established
by the national office of NHS and have been revised to meet our local
chapter needs. Students are selected by a 5-member Faculty Council,
appointed by the Principal, which bestows this honor upon qualified
students on behalf of the entire Yeshiva. Students in the 11th or 12th
grades are eligible for membership. If you have any questions, please contact Rabbi Kanarek or Mr. Ellis, chapter adviser.
