Rabbi Mayer Neuberger, Rosh Yeshiva
Rabbi Mayer
Neuberger, a native of Baltimore, Md, studied in Mechina High School of NIRC,
Yeshiva of Philadelphia, Yeshivas Mir (Jerusalem) and Beis Medrash Govoha
(Lakewood), where he received smicha. Rabbbi Neuberger came to Atlanta in 1997
to join the Atlanta Scholars Kollel and has served as Rosh Yeshiva of Ohr
Yisrael since the yeshiva’s founding in 2001. He is married to Rivka Neuberger (nee
Hopfer) who currently works as an anesthetist at Grady Hospital. They have four
children.
Rabbi Avrohom Kanarek, MenahelRabbi Avrohom Kanarek grew up in Brooklyn, NY. He learned in Yeshivas Rabeinu Yitzchok Elchonon under Rabbi Hershel Shachter shlita. Rabbi Kanarek served as a Rebbe in Yeshiva University High School and later became Menahel of Yeshiva Tifereth Moshe in Queens, NY. Afterward, he became Rav at Congregation Beth Tefillah in Paramus for eight years and an associate Principal at Yeshiva of North Jersey. Rabbi Kanarek came to Atlanta in 2002 to become the Menahel at Yeshiva Ohr Yisrael. He is married to Rena Kanarek who has worked in Chinuch Habanos for over twenty years; she is currently teaching Limudei Kodesh at Temima High School for Girls in Atlanta.
Rabbi Shimon Wiggins, General Studies Principal, Tenth Grade RebbeRabbi Shimon Wiggins grew up in New Jersey and came to Yeshiva Chaim Berlin in twelfth grade. He soon developed a close and deep relationship with the Yeshiva, including the Rosh Yeshiva, Rav Ahron Shechter, which continues until this day. After thirteen rewarding years in both Beis Midrash and Kollel, Rabbi Wiggins received semicha and began teaching seventh and eighth graders at a day school in Long Island, NY. In 1994, he moved to Atlanta to teach at the high school level. In 2000, he received a Masters in Education from Mercer University and in 2003 he was recognized as a Star Teacher by the Georgia Department of Education. Rabbi Wiggins joined Yeshiva Ohr Yisrael to teach the eleventh grade shiur in 2004. Through his love and enthusiasm for Torah, he strives to infuse his talmidim with excitement, depth, and vibrancy of Torah study. In 2006, Rabbi Wiggins became the General Studies Principal. Through his leadership general studies has developed into a quality and challenging program that meets the needs of each student. Rabbi Naftali Estreicher, Eleventh Grade RebbeRabbi Naftali Tzi Estreicher is the eleventh grade Rebbe and twelfth grade placement advisor. After eight year of learning at the Talmudical Yeshiva of Philadelphia and five years in Jerusalem’s Mir Yeshiva he returned to his hometown of Atlanta GA. Rabbi Estreicher was a founding member of the Yeshiva Ohr Yisrael Kollel and has completed the Ohr Legola outreach training program. During the summer months rabbi Estreicher serves as a rebbe at Camp Bonim.

General StudiesDr. Mark Yates, Science ChairDr. Mark Yates received degrees in chemistry and biology from Atlanta Metropolitan College and Georgia State University, as well as a master’s degree in neurobiology. He recently finished his Ph.D. in Educational Policy Studies from Georgia State University, where he conducts research and works as an instructor of educators. Dr. Yates has been with YOY since its inception, and has taught biology, chemistry, physics and environmental science. He believes that laboratory activity is a key component of science education because the lab is where theory comes to life.Mr. Bill Ellis, History & GovernmentMr.William Ellis attended both the University of Georgia and Georgia State University. He holds a BS Ed. in Secondary Social Science Education and a Masters in Educational Leadership and Supervision. He taught in the Gwinnet County school system for over 35 years; was department chair for eleven years; and served on the committee that developed the geography certification test used in the State of Georgia to certify teacher expertise in the subject of geography. At YOY, Mr. Ellis teaches the full range of social sciences including AP US Hisotry and AP US Government.
Mr. Brent Eickhoff, English
Mr. Brent Eickhoff attended both Appalachian State University and Georgia State University. He holds a BS Ed. in Secondary English Education and Masters and Specialist degrees in Educational Leadership and Supervision. He has taught in Rockdale County and Decatur City for the last eleven years. At YOY, Mr. Eickhoff teaches 11th and 12th grade English classes. Mr. Samuel Owens, Math & ScienceMr. Samuel Owens earned bachelor degrees from both Georgia State University and Maryland State College. He has also received a degree from Gupton Jones School of Mortuary Science and an M.Ed from Brenau University. He is currently pursuing an educational specialist degree in math and science. Before entering the field of education, Mr. Owens served as a certified criminal investigator for the US Army CID Command and an Atlanta Police officer for 13 years. He has taught in private and public schools for over 14 years, and at YOY teaches Algebra I, Chemistry and Physics. He enjoys reading, sailing, botany, history, fitness and walks with his wife.Mr. Randy Sharian, EnglishMr. Randy Sharian is a career English teacher, having taught for 30 years in various Georgia high schools before retiring several years ago. Following a brief retirement, he began a second teaching career as a part-time English composition instructor at Georgia Perimeter College where he is presently employed in addition to teaching at YOY. His degrees include a B.A. in English from Piedmont College and M.A. in English from Georgia State University. His lifelong passions are poetry and basketball.
Mr. Rosco Twiggs, Jr. , Math
Rosco Twiggs, Jr. graduated from Southern Polytechnic University with a BS in Industrial Engineering. He began his engineering career at Lockheed Aeronautical Systems and later worked as an industrial engineering analyst at Lucas Aerospace Cargo Systems and Boeing. Mr. Twiggs began his teaching career at Covenant Christian Ministries (CCMA) There he taught the gamut of math courses that included algebra, geometry and pre-calculus. While at CCMA, Mr. Twiggs received 3 individual nominations from junior and senior students to Who’s Who Among American Teachers. Mr. Twiggs has become the backbone of the YOY math program, teaching everything from geometry to calculus and statistics. He believes in using his engineering background to give students real-world application of how math is used in manufacturing, design and the things students use daily. In addition to learning concepts and formulas, students engage in projects to apply what they have learned. For example, trigonometry students build a model of a functioning suspension bridge to examine how load and weight are used to calculate the parabola formed by the suspension wire. Geometry students build scale models of two-story houses using a variety of materials and measurements made from actual house layouts.
