Yeshiva Ohr Yisrael of Atlanta is accredited by the Georgia Accrediting Commission (GAC). The GAC was established in 1904 and is one of the oldest accrediting agencies in the country. Hundreds of private and public schools in Georgia are accredited through the GAC.
Avondale Estates, Georgia was alive with joyous music last month, as a group of Ohr Yisrael students made their singing debut at Nickel and Dime Recording Studios. As part of their Physics class, Grade 9 students furthered their knowledge of wave theory and sound by touring the professional, music recording studio. The studio manager and sound engineer explained the process of transduction of sound waves into an electronic recording.
As a bonus, the boys had the opportunity to make a CD. Senior classmen Moshe Levin (piano and direction) and Meir Preis (drums) led the singers through several numbers. Throughout its history, the Nickel and Dime building has hosted many chart- topping acts including Elvis Presley in the 1950's. But according to studio manager, James Pinkstone, it is rare that a group sings with as much enthusiasm as the Yeshiva Ohr Yisrael 9th graders!
We greatly appreciate the efforts of Mr. Mark Yates for arranging this exciting learning experience and also for coordinating the CPR/AED training, which is an integral part of our new Heart Safe Program.
Students Learn About Elderly Care
Mr. Hall's Business Math Class visited Mt. Vernon Towers Retirement Home in Sandy Springs as part of its study of senior living and care. Mr. Tommy Miller, Executive Director of the facility gave a 4o minute overview of elderly care issues and explained the differences between retirement homes, assisted living facilities, and nursing homes. He emphasized the need to give high quality service to the residents and the importance of having the temperament and personality to enjoy working with senior citizens.
After the meeting, the boys had the opportunity to meet Mr. Ben Berke, a 101-year-old Jewish resident of Mt. Vernon Towers and personal friend of Mr. Hall. Berke happened to be playing his banjo with some friends, so the class had the opportunity to enjoy a few tunes!
Thank you Mr. Hall for all your efforts to bring Business Math into the real world.
